Lawrence Usick was born in 1931 at Ozerna and passed away peacefully on 22nd of March 2024 at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home.
Farming was Lawrence’s whole life from the time he was a child, farming with his brothers and Uncle Frank after his father died when Lawrence was a boy. Lawrence married Ruth Bachewich and moved to the Newdale area. Lawrence and Ruth grew their family and their farm over the next 65 years. Lawrence continued checking cows and being involved in the family farm into his 90s. Grandpa always had time for his grandkids, pinching us and blaming mosquitos and rescuing us from chicken coops after our brother locked us in.
Lawrence is survived by his sons Lonnie (Kim), Wesley (Dianne), and Morley. Also his grandchildren: Carolyn Usick, Jennifer Franklin, Nicole (Luc) Parent, Lauren Usick (Ed Waddell), Megan (Mitch) Burgess, and Grant Usick (Sydney Duncan); and his great-grandchildren Madison and Emily Parent, Sophie and Owen Waddell, Mazey and Liza Burgess, and Mila Usick. As well as his sister Eleanor Mosher, sister-in-laws Lillian Usick and Olvia Bachewich, brother-in-law Bob Bachewich, and many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Ruth (Bachewich) Usick. Also his parents Mike and Helen Usick, brothers Adam and Steve Usick, brother-in-laws Bob Mosher and Andrew Bachewich, and sister-in-laws Florence Usick, Sylvia Hunt, and Elizabeth Gregorash, and daughter-in-law Shelly Usick.
Lawrence was able to live on the family farm, surrounded by his family, until only a few months before his passing. He was an example of hard work, and we are all grateful for all his hard work has grown for our family. He will be greatly missed.
